George Byrnes, Class of 1973 said a few words paying tribute to a 1970 classmate who passed:

My last assignment in the Navy before retiring in 1990 was to be the Director of the Navy's Nurse Anesthesia Program and being the Nurse Anesthesia Advisor to the Director of the Nurse Corps and the Surgeon General's Office for the Navy. As a result of my advisor role I interfaced with CRNA community extensively over many issues. It was during this time I got to meet Tom Thompson as well as a number of CRNA's who had been stationed with him. In view of his class being honored, I would like share with the attendee's Tom's stellar reputation in the Navy. I learned from his colleagues that he was an excellent clinician, a fearless patient advocate and above all a genuinely nice human being, always concerned about the well being of others. Tom's untimely death was a blow to our community of about 110 CRNA's, no doubt to his family and to all his future contacts robbed of his very engaging persona.
